Coming soon: SHAZAM BOLT$ mobile app name change to Brella

posted by Cindy Smith (Retired) on Thursday, April 9, 2020 in Company News

Cardholder safety is everyone’s priority. Our app offers protection for debit cards with real-time alerts and blocks. Like an umbrella, Brella™ will be there to protect and shield cardholders. And, as the potential for fraud evolves in new ways during these unprecedented times, this is another way to help keep your cardholders safe.

Why now?

The app name change to Brella was determined to be an essential initiative for SHAZAM prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Arrangements made and contracts secured before this crisis required us to move forward with the name change in May 2020.

Right now, more than ever, people are looking to their financial institutions for ways to keep their account information safe. While some have expressed concern about the timing of this change happening in May, we’re doing all we can to minimize the impact to your institution and your cardholders.

We know this is a busy and somewhat overwhelming time for many. The transition to the new app for cardholders should be relatively seamless so they can continue to monitor and manage their debit cards. Additionally, the user can locate nearby ATMs and send money to anyone, which is convenient during these times of social distancing.

SHAZAM will help you communicate this update to your cardholders.

We’ll be sending an email directly to each of your current BOLT$ users about five days before the release. Free marketing materials are available to you to support the change at SHAZAM Power Marketing.

Are cardholders impacted?

For iOS® users, there’s little to no impact. Brella will be released as an automatic update.

Android users will need to download Brella as a new app in early May once the app is released. They’ll need to visit the Google Play Store, search “Brella Card Manager,” and download the new Brella app to their device. They can then delete the BOLT$ app.

Once iOS and Android users have Brella, the transition will be seamless for your cardholders, meaning all BOLT$ usernames, passwords, registered cards and app functions will continue to work in Brella as they do today.

Cardholder safety is important to all of us, and we thank you for your patience during this update. If you have questions about the name change or the process, contact your SHAZAM regional director.
