We're proud to announce that SHAZAM President and CEO Paul Waltz was named 2021 Executive of the Year by the Des Moines Chapter of Executive Women International. This honor is given each year to an executive who has exhibited the values of EWI and provided exceptional support to the organization.

At the EWI Executive Night event on Sept. 9, Paul was recognized for his commitment to leading SHAZAM, his encouragement for personal development and his passion for giving back to the community. Jackie Rolow, Kelly Betts and SHAZAM retiree, Deb Lyons were there to help celebrate!

In addition to his support of EWI, Paul is involved with numerous boards and committees, including the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Rebuilding Together of Greater Des Moines, Habitat for Humanity and the Greater Des Moines United Way committee. Paul is often looked to for advice, inspiration, and insight as the community considers transformative initiatives impacting a variety of causes.

Paul was nominated by Kelly Betts, SHAZAM executive assistant, who also serves as the EWI Des Moines fundraising director.

"Paul is a leader…and a friend. He's more interested in people for who they are than in what they can do for him or our company. He focuses on friendship, and he knows good things will follow when he shows how much he cares. He often says people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care," Kelly said.

Since 2014, Paul has served as SHAZAM’s president and CEO after serving 14 years on its board of directors. He works hard every day to fulfill SHAZAM’s mission of strengthening community financial institutions. He embodies SHAZAM’s core values of integrity, commitment, dependability, independence and fairness.

“I’m passionate about healthy communities. These are the very fabric of society. Our culture at SHAZAM is one that encourages involvement and care for other perspectives and encourages team members to bring their unique gifts forward into the community to make an impact. I’m so proud of Kelly and her contributions to EWI. EWI is an organization making a difference in the community. What an honor this is.”
